Rewards and benefits

In exchange for meeting challenges and consistently high performance, you deserve to be rewarded for your contribution to Ernst & Young's success.

We recognize this and have structured our compensation packages accordingly. You’ll be rewarded based on your individual and team performance, in a way that motivates you to achieve your potential.

Rewards can take many forms, from competitive salaries and traditional benefit plans through to financial planning and legal assist programs. We also support flexible working and will work with you to help you benefit from the right career development opportunities.

Base and variable pay

Base pay: Your base salary compensates you for the value you bring to the firm and for meeting our everyday high expectations. Our goal is to make base pay externally competitive, internally equitable and related to performance.

Variable pay: Our variable pay program rewards and recognizes you for your contributions that go above and beyond our everyday high expectations.

  • Annual awards selectively recognize individuals for extraordinary achievements sustained over the majority of the year.
  • Smaller just-in-time recognition awards acknowledge exceptional short-term efforts or results by individuals or teams.
  • Promotion bonuses reward client servers who advance to senior, manager and senior manager. For support personnel, a promotion is typically recognized by a salary increase when assuming a higher-level role.

Health and welfare

Choice of high-quality medical coverage:

  • Open Access plan with choices: In-network and out-of-network benefit levels offer you a choice of providers with no referrals required. Prescription drug, routine physical exam and hearing care benefits are available through the Open Access plan.
  • A High-Deductible health plan with Health Savings account: Participants pay the entire cost of care until the annual deductible is satisfied. Participants may be eligible to contribute to a tax-free HSA to help pay for qualified medical expenses.
  • Health maintenance organizations available in some locations.

Automatic enrollment in eye care program upon enrollment in medical coverage.

  • Dental coverage for preventive care and restoration services.
  • Dependent day care and health care reimbursement accounts.
  • You may contribute up to $5,000 per year tax-free to dependent day care and up to $3,000 for health care accounts. Then, get reimbursed tax-free from your account(s) for eligible over-the-counter products and other noncovered health care/dependent care expenses.

Additional benefits for working parents:

  • Family medical leave: Allows individuals with at least one year of service to take unpaid family medical leave for up to 16 weeks (four more than federally required).
  • Parental leave: Offers six weeks of paid leave for the primary caregiver (in addition to short-term disability paid leave), and two weeks if you are not the primary caregiver. This includes the birth, adoption, foster care or legal guardianship of a child.
  • Adoption assistance: Pays expenses up to $5,000 per child (with an additional $1,000 for special needs children), with paid leave available for the caregivers, along with resource and referral services.
  • Lactation program: Hospital-grade pump available at no cost to all eligible personnel and their spouses or eligible same-sex domestic partners, along with available lactation consultation to all Ernst & Young women.

Savings and retirement

  • A 401(k) savings plan with multiple investment options, matching contributions and immediate 100% vesting.
  • Defined benefit retirement plan at no cost to you.
  • 529 College Savings Plan allows payroll deductions for future college tuition.

Time off

  • Minimum 15 days of vacation with additional weeks based on level and years of service.
  • Ten observed holidays, which includes additional days off around Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.
  • Three personal days annually.
  • Additional Days Off Program allows employees with 15 days of vacation to purchase an extra five days of time off.
  • Unlimited paid time off for casual illness: Unlike many companies, we work with individuals to permit a reasonable amount of paid time off for casual illness.

Additional life management

  • Personal financial planning provides unlimited access to Ernst & Young’s team of highly experienced financial planners at no cost to you.
  • College coaching helps parents and students of all ages prepare for college.
  • Back-up child and adult care services: Low-cost back-up child and adult care for both anticipated and unexpected needs, either off-site or in-home. We also offer a Saturday Child Care Program to help our people cope with the demands of busy season.
  • Commuter benefits to help pay for eligible commuting costs on a pre-tax basis.
  • Employee discounts enables you to shop online for nationally recognized products, services and entertainment at reduced prices.
  • Mortgage referral program helps you find financing for your home through referrals and arrangements with several lending institutions.
  • Access to EYAssist, the firm’s one-stop resource for solutions to work and home life issues.
  • Flexible work arrangements, in addition to supporting and practicing day-to-day flexibility so that people have what they need to succeed in their careers and personal lives. For example: telecommuting, reduced schedules, compressed work weeks.
  • Bereavement Benefit: A lump-sum payment of four months' salary to a surviving spouse or key adult survivor, and survivor financial counseling for a 12-month period. This payment is in addition to any life insurance through the firm.

Financial and legal protection

We provide a range of insurance benefits:

  • Group term life, group universal and group variable universal life insurance plans
  • Accidental death and dismemberment coverage
  • Business travel accident insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability income
  • Long-term care insurance

We also provide a group legal plan for you to have access to local attorneys who provide a wide range of legal services.

These plans allow for required premiums to be deducted from your paycheck.

Career and professional development

  • Certification reimbursement and bonus: We provide upfront reimbursement for your coursework and exams to help you complete your certification as soon as possible. We also offer a professional certification bonus to reward you for attainment of required professional certifications early in your career.
  • Matching gifts: We help you support higher education by matching your gifts up to $7,500 per school per year.
  • Membership in business, civic and professional organizations, with reimbursement available for annual dues and fees for certain organizations.
  • Service anniversary awards recognize and celebrate those who have a long-term relationship with us by providing them with a gift of their choice for certain milestone anniversaries.
